Of fairy godmothers
Rewind to two weeks earlier, my cousin Victor, who works in the military invites me to go to the winter ball with him. As any girl in her right mind would not say no, I say yes with an overtly excited mega-watt smile. I run a mental check of the clothes I brought with me and nope, I did not bring a gown because I never thought I'd be attending any fancy schmancy function this soon. Whatever happened to my sense of foresight. Left with nothing to wear, my fairy godmother Tita Rochie and Tito Ed took me shopping for a gown and matching shoes (which they never had to do until now =D). After quite a few boutiques and fittings, we finally agreed to an outfit that we liked, with Tito Ed impressing me with his inner Christian Louboutin sense of style. Who would've thought? =D
Fast forward to the night of the event, I suddenly realized while preparing that a ball would require dancing (oh dear, oh dear). And as my friends and family would know by heart, I DO NOT DANCE. At all. As in no rhythm. Zilch. Nada. Anyway, no sense in worrying about the futile, so come what may, I'll worry about the dancing when and if it comes.
Awards and recognition
My cousin, CAPT Victor Guevara, was recognized that evening for service and achievement so I was one proud little sister when he marched up the stage to receive his medal and certificate. And I do not exaggerate when I say proud because I embarrassed myself by clapping a tad bit too early (and a little too loudly) while his honors were still being announced. His friends were gentlemen enough to join-in though (amidst teasing).

I may exaggerate by calling it my Cinderella moment but hey, it's not everyday that a girl gets invited by an officer to a proper ball (think Kate Middleton). Luckily, my outfit did not have to turn to peasant clothing at 12 midnight because the function ended at 11. And of course, they had to finish the party off by getting drinks at a nearby pub.
I danced too btw, but I choose not to expound on the subject because I felt that I really did horribly and terribly (seriously). At least I went home with both of my shoes on, unlike Cinderella.
